Coming from a family of five with monthly income of Rs. 2500/- (less than $55) a month, Jyoti obtained 76%, standing 7th in a class of 179 students. Besides the usual academic lessons, he took regular lessons as a student in Bangiya Sangeet Parishad (Affiliated to Rabindra Bharati University) and received 1st division in 2-year long Adya and Madhya courses. He also participates in Vigyan Aviksha - a science talent search organization. Jyoti's hobbies are drawing and gardening. He wants to be a Computer Engineer.
