General
In India, millions of young kids are unable to attend even the basic elementary schools - not because the schools are not available within their reach, but because the parents are so busy earning bread for the family that they don't have time to see if the kids are to attend free government schools. Or, they feel helpless even if they know the kid doesn't have a shirt to wear to school for study or playing with friends. This story is so common in villages or in the slums of big cities that no one has to make any effort at all to find these kids. Lily Foundation targets these children and impart a basic minimum education to them. While the mother may be hawking vegetables on the street since very early morning (or late night), the Lily Foundation school takes care of her kid in a Study Home or a Primary Coaching Home.
For grown-ups, we have High School Coaching Homes where Grade IX and X students get free coaching in the critical
subjects.

AALO Study Homes are the Foundation-sponsored small schools opened
in homes or facilities 'donated' specifically for this purpose for
the length of a school period (usually 2 1/2 hours). The basic education is for the native language,
English and Math. The medium of instruction is the child's mother tongue.

AALO Coaching Homes - Primary address the low-ranked school students' need by offering them group-coaching in selected subjects. Like Study Homes, Coaching Homes are small schools, usually held at a volunteer's house or a free private or public facility where a volunteer himself/herself assumes the role of a teacher. The group-coaching environment is made more attractive by offering school students hours convenient to them.
There is a large number of primary school students in Grade III through V where parents cannot look after their ward's homework as they are, either busy earning meagerly enough to make their ends meet, or not themselves literate enough to understand the homework. As a result, the children become demotivated at attending classes. To make things worse (which apparently is to make things better in the eyes of the school administration), there is practically no pass/fail examination held until at the end of the primary classes, i.e., at Grade V. Thus, many children in state-run primary schools somehow continue study till Grade V, when they finally opt to drop-out, as their poor knowledge makes them unable to cope with the pressure of a pass/fail exam.
Lily Foundation targets the unfortunate primary school students. Small AALO Homes, called Primary Coaching Homes, have been established in strategic areas where the children can attend the coaching classes during convenient evening hours.
We are running several such schools. Click the top band to get more info:

Helping the kids to complete their school homework apparently motivates the students to come
to attend a Coaching Home. Ananya Pal, daughter of a rickshaw-puller, is a student of class V, who
now reads English sentences very well.
She wants to be an "auntee" at school, when she grows up. Amar Das (class V) and Samar Das (class IV)
are very intelligent, but don't study at home. Their father is an ironer (ironing clothes at the street-side)
does not have the ability to coach them at home. The Das brothers want to do office jobs when they grow up.

AALO Coaching Homes - High School address the low-ranked school students' need by offering them group-coaching in selected subjects. HIgh School Coaching Homes are small schools, usually held at the high school or some other school premises where teachers are engaged as subject-matter-experts for the selected subjects, such as Math and English. The group-coaching environment is made more attractive because it offers convenient hours to them.
The students generally
come from very poor families where often they must work
to earn money to help their parents running the family. They are unable to afford
engaging a private tutor
to help them in one or two subjects, generally English and Math. Without such help,
in all likelihood
they would never be able to graduate from the high school.
To date, we have 2 AALO Coaching Homes. For details of any such school, click below:
